I ran across this problem when I bought a used LCD monitor. To be precise, it was:
17″ StarLogic LCD Monitor (11004988) / Model M17ANA
I just could not get this darn thing to display in the full 1280 x 1024 resolution that it was supposed to show at maximum (the greater the resolution size, the smaller the stuff you see on the screen, but in exchange, you can see more stuff at once!). Rather, I could only select at maximum, 1024 x 768. Kinda defeats the purpose of a 17″ monitor.
So I googled, and googled, thinking that I was missing some driver for it. Of course, I didn’t have the original CD. No success. I came across tons of driver download sites, but this monitor didn’t seem to exist! At least, I did find that they sold it at Office Depot at a discount awhile back for around $150, but still no driver to download anywhere.
Then I found a posting on a forum that stated that you don’t need a driver. His explanation was just rather a quick text only one, so I will put a picture-based comprehensive one here. This is on windows 2000, but should be similar for XP:
1. Go to your Control Panel, and click on Display.
2. Go to Settings tab, and click on Advanced button
3. Click on Monitor tab, and uncheck “hide modes that this monitor cannot display”.
4. Go to the Adapter tab, and click on “list all modes”
5. Select the following – 1280 x 1024, 75hz.
7. Click on OK
8. Lastly, click on the left-most button on the front of the monitor itself (auto-adjust; most monitors have this button) and your monitor should work! Worked for me!
This should work for any 17″ LCD in general with Windows 2000 or XP. Good luck!

Where can a service manuel be located and who is the manufacture?
I have looked and looked for the Starlogic manufacuterer to download the proper drivers for a 19″ Starlogic. I have found through research that the monitor is made in CHINA. Most sites related to Starlogic are “tagged” as unsafe by Norton Internet Security. There are no links which provide the proper drivers for a 19″ Starlogic so I highly suspect none will be available for a 17″ monitor. Therefore, the monitor can be used as a “Plug and Play” device with no problems.
anonymous – i have no idea. it seems to be a pretty generic company – they have no website either.
Yes, it did work – Thank you. I also bought a floor model Starlogic M17ANA without driver software. Now if I can only get the color fixed. Too much green. Thanks again, you’re a life saver.
Glad I could help – I had no idea if it worked b/c of lack of feedback from people reading this blog.
For the too much green color, try the auto adjust button (most left button).
Bought a 19 in.Starlogic thin monitor,,,the middle of a page looks like it is concave,,is it just my eyes that need readjusting or is there a setting that I need to do? Please help…
P.S.
I have had CTR’s for about 8 years..
Hi Marie, the best thing to do is to press the left most button, which is the auto adjust button… and I think you mean CRT. 🙂
Hi there,
I too have the starlogic 17″ lcd which actually says M17CNA on the back. It also came without any drivers or manual etc., and I have spent ages trying to get the colour right for me as I use it as a second monitor and would love the desktop colour to be the same as my main monitor. I’m not too good with colours.
Has anybody managed to find out who manufactured etc., ie., what it or was it originally before it got badged starlogic, would love to know, and anything else relating since it is something of a mystery all round. chris jc
hi,
what specifically is wrong w/ the color on the starlogic monitor?
I also bought my StarLogic m17ana t a discounted price, from an Office Max that was closing and eliminating inventory. This fix gave me the best picture I’ve seen on this thing so far, but it’s just not a good monitor, at any price, unless you have no monitor and get it for free. If you’re purchasing an LCD monitor, pass this one by in favor of a name brand, preferably one that has a website and some form of support!
It worked for me thanks, but all the text in outlook looks kind of faded. So I’ll just be switching back and forth as needed.
As to it being a bad monitor BULL, I spent over an hour at Officemax looking at all the LCD monitors and for video the starlogic was far better then any other monitor there.
Drivers are a pain but I’m going to buy another one hopefully it has drivers.
Thanks again for the fix
you’re welcome big mike.
i think in general, lcd’s are pretty much the same. my guess is that many of them are produced by the same company somewhere in china, then rebranded, and put into different plastic casings.
i can’t imagine why a lcd would have to have separate drivers for each company really, it’s not like there’s a lot of technological differences between 1 lcd to another, mostly just physical. perhaps one is bigger, brighter, has higher resolution, but no more and no less.
glad the fix worked. i had a hard time figuring this out myself, so i thought i’d post this to help you all.
My new 19″ Starlogic works on my friend’s laptop, but when we hooked my computer to it, it is blank, except for a thin bar stating “out of range.” It didn’t come with any software. Ideas appreciated…
Jo
This info seems to have helped with our starlogic 17″ monitor. We just up graded to xp pro with no drivers. So , I google seached and found this page. Thanks for the help
I’m glad I could help, Tom.
hi Anonymous #12, what operating system is your computer on? windows xp or 2000 or what? I think you have to be on at least 2000 or above (meaning xp pro or home).

It is saying that because the monoter dosnt have the firmware to adjust to that pixle configuration. If you manage to get another screen going then hook up the computer to that and set your pixles to 800×600. That the general standardation set by most monoter manufactures. It should work when you have the box reset (As long as your computer works period). If that dosnt work for you then look into the graphics cards hardware. “System information” is a wonderfull place to solve that issue from.
Has anyone been able to determine who the manufacturer is?
i have that same monitor the 17″ starlogic but i have vista home premium with 7900 gs and i still cant get the resolution to the max anyone hve any ideas?
sorry HMReaper – I have no idea. I’m not an early adopter like you. Have you tried fiddling w/ the display settings as I showed?
My Starlogic M17ANA was working perfectly no problems. Yesterday I went to use it and the screen is white, it won’t do anything else. Of course the ONE year limited warranty expired in Nov 2006
Anyone else had this problem or know what I should do??????
hi andrea – i hope it’s not dead… but if you bought it with a credit card, check if it give extended warranty. if so, you can take it back to the store w/ your receipt.
I hope it’s not dead, I’ll check in my files for the receipt and see what I can do , thanks for the advice
just hooked up 20″ starlogic to pc screen just flashes diff. colors any advice?
Is true HMReaper the same problem is happened to me… This Tip does not work with Windows Vista …I try it .. and i still looking for the solution.. if anyone had any idea please let me know…..of i’m going to end up buying a new Monitor…lol
Spent way too much time looking this one up, thank god for those who have come before and solved lifes little problems……….Thanks for the help.
Your info was a really big help. Thank you for rescuing me from a cruddy looking monitor!
For those hooking the monitor up for the first time and getting blank screens or colored stripes, you need to do what was stated above although it might not have been perfectly clear.
Simply hook up the old monitor and configure your display for 800X600 and 256 color display, every monitor out there now days will support this mode. You can then adjust it as needed when you get into windows where it will revert back after 15 seconds if you do not respond.
Lastly for those with no other monitor to fall back to, you can boot up in SAFE MODE by hitting F8 repeatedly while the machine boots until you get the boot menu.
There are a few different tricks out there but they become very complicated and I personally don’t recommend them but for the brave of heart you can search the web and try 🙂
Thanks for the tips!! We’ve been fighting with this for months!!!
cool Tas – glad I could help. didn’t know this one post would be so useful for everyone.
Thank you! This solved my problem when I upgraded to Vista.
techwiz – that’s great to hear!
I just bought a StarLogic 19″ Widescreen Flat Panel TFT/LCD Monitor. I have tried all the adjustments (including the ones suggested here), yet still have “shadows” behind all text and icons. Is it just this monitor? Any thoughts?
Hi Lori,
That’s a windows setting. are you using vista or xp? anyways, try the following:
https://basictech.wordpress.com/?s=cleartype&searchbutton=go%21
This is fantastic! It fixed the problems. THANK YOU.
I think I’ve read something simillar a few days ago. I don’t remember where, might have been on digg.com or slashdot.
My computer had really slowed down and I had 2 somethings (_PTAWIA and Socket Sink) running in background that I couldn’t find to get rid of and I had a problem with a missing .dll file so I decided to clean out and re-install XP. Now my Starlogic doesn’t show up as a plug n play and I’m stuck on 640×480. The properties box -monitor tab has it set to “default monitor” so I can’t get into any of the properties or check boxes that you mention in your fix. I tried unplugging and plug back in and the troubleshoot says it is working fine.
Hi annemarie,
please try this. ensure that your wnidows xp is updated to xp sp2, and also install all the updates. then try what I wrote in this blog.
I was going to try to fix the monitor problem first hoping it was not going to be too much trouble. But my bigger problem is that when I re-installed XP it also did not give me an internet connection. When I go to Network Connections it is completely blank; there should be at least one icon – I think the “Local area connection” or “Make new connection” or both. I can’t update XP or search for drivers on that computer since I can’t connect to internet.
back to the very first tip given on this page: uncheck “hide modes that this monitor cannot display”.
What if it’s not able to be unchecked? I can’t uncheck it. It’s grayed out. What do I do?
that’s strange. do you have admin rights for your login? perhaps you don’t have admin rights, so you can’t uncheck it. that’s all i can think of.
I am looking for a circuit board for the M17ANA Starlogic. Any ideas?
Ronald, the best place would be ebay. better yet, just buy a new one, you can get a 17″ one for about $130 these days. chk sites like newegg.com, tigerdirect.com, or buy.com for sales.
Hello
Great book. I just want to say what a fantastic thing you are doing! Good luck!
Bye
does anyone know where I can get the ac power adapter for the
Starlogic M17ANA LCD MONITOR?
Hi –
for some reason, I cannot use my Starlogic as my primary display nor can I get my windows info to pop up at all when I try to use it as my secondary…what am I doing wrong. Yes, I checked the boxes in the “display” menu.
Hi, thanks, worked for me. This monitor was given to me. Now that you’ve fixed this HORRENDOUS(thanks SO MUCH) problem, any suggestions how to get the color right?
umm…I can’t believe some of the posters waited months to fix the problems. Maybe I am much too impatient. Since this device is plug and play, I found much more on the advanced tabs and fixed my color issues. Still can’t watch movies though. Any suggestions?
hi Mom,
can you please clarify what you mean by “can’t watch movies?” do you see no screen at all, or is it choppy, etc?
Hi Vanessa,
seems like you’re using dual screen (monitor) setup? try using just one monitor at a time, the starlogic one. I have my setup at work with an HP monitor as the primary and the starlogic as my secondary. works fine.
you have to make sure that you have a video card that can do dual monitor setup by the way.
I just wrote a rather lengthy…well, let’s just say d__n! I hit the wrong button and poof! It was gone! Thank goodness I know how to type fast, but I’m not particularly fond of listening or reading my own stories twice…so I’ll try to shorten it this time.
I’m helping a friend with the settings on her new starlogic 19in widescreen…or trying to. Her operating system is Millenium (yeah, I know)…so your fix won’t apply in this case.
Please tell me how I can make her nice new monitor with her dinosaur computer look the way it should instead of making people look WIDE or fat, or squashed.
Crossing my fingers!
Thanks!
Shannon
WOW – I’ve been squinting my eyes for the last few weeks because my monitor wasn’t filling the whole screen – this fix worked – THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You’re welcome Anita. I’m too busy these days to continue this blog, but it seems that this post is really popular and helpful. I’m glad I could help you all out.
Anyone have a similar fix for a Starlogic 19″ monitor, Windows XP? This fix isn’t working for mine.
hm, this should work for XP fine… what resolution did you try anon#53?
I have a 19″ Starlogic LCD monitor and I cannot seem to get all the vertical display in the screen. Horizontally it’s fitting fine, but the top and bottom of the screen are missing. It seems like a vertical stretch issue, but I thought that only applied to CRTs. Any help is greatly appreciated.
#55, I think you have the wrong resolution. Try 1440 by 960.
Just received a 19″ as a gift. hooked it up. worked fine for about 1 hour. turned off computer and when I turned it back on monitor not working. Display came on for about 1-2 seconds and then nothing. tried the above fix, but no go. any suggestions?
@george – try debugging. try another display, if that works fine, it’s a monitor issue. IF another monitor does not work, it’s an issue w/ your computer’s video card.
If it’s an issue w/ your monitor, just return it.
@Shannon – it seems that you need an updated video card. Make sure that your video card supports the resolution you want.
I have a Starlogic that I have been using at work for about a year and a half. Two days ago I turned the computer on and the screen was white. I brought the screen home and tried it with my home computer and it is still white. Any suggestions????
@Mary – it could be that the monitor died. But to be conclusive, I would ensure that your cable on both the computer and the monitor is correctly connected. Also, you might want to even try w/ another cable. If that doesn’t work, the monitor is dead.
If you purchased w/ a credit card, see if your cc offered double warranty on your product and try to use it.
Thank God for you all… I spent an hour looking around the Display settings to get 1600×1200… honestly, I was afraid to uncheck that box since I just bought the monitor today and I was only testing it off of my laptop while my new computer is in the mail.
Separate question: I had a hell of a time getting this to work in the first place with WinXP… it kept crashing before windows, something about new hardware added. So I disconnected it. Same problem. So, I thought I had to wipe my harddrive. Turned it off, went to class, came back and poof. It works. Weird eh? I am not sure if I am ready for Vista but I may need it to get the best out of my new system:
Intel Core 2 Quad Processor Q6600
Asus P5K SE Core 2 Quad/ Intel P35/ FSB1333/ DDR2-1066/ A&GbE/
OCZ OCZ2G8001GK 3GB (3X 1GB) Kit DDR2 PC2-6400 Gold GX XTC
Western Digital 160GB SATA2 (I’ll get an upgrade)
nVidia GeForce 9600GT 512MB DVI/TV-OUT PCI-Express Video Card
BCC VOYAGER MID-TOWER ATX
ROSEWILL 600 WATT SLI POWER SUPPLY (cheap, may upgrade in the future)
Only $891 before taxes!
Folks, this is my first REAL computer and it comes tomorrow! Finally I can play a game when its released for the first time in my computer game-playin life!
@shaun – those are nice specs! I envy you. I would stay away from Vista for now. It’s bloated, and it will not be as fast as XP.
If you’re ok w/ not having eye candy, then stick with XP – it’s more stable and faster than Vista right now.
btw, I’m now at http://techtips4joe.blogspot.com
take care.
This is the only place I have found helpful info. on starlogic monitors. I have a 20 inch LCD flat panel. I’ve had it 16 months. My problemis different, my monitor screen goes black after a few minutes. When I power off the monitor then power it back on it works a few seconds then goes black again. Started doing it about a month ago. Any ideas?
@frustrated in dallas – it seems to me that you have power settings turned on to turn off your monitor.
go to start > control panel > power options and ensure that turn off monitor is set to a longer time or just says ‘never’.
if that’s not the case, you might just have a bad monitor…
hope it’s still under warranty.
Well over a year later and this entry is still helping! Worked great for me. Who would have thought it was that simple! It now looks like I have a quality monitor! Thanks!
Thanks a lot for this post, it helped a lot.
Just wanted to add that in my case, following these instructions helped, but still left part of the screen sort of fuzzy/blurry. I left it in the same resolution (1280×1024) but put it to 60 instead of 75 Hz, and pressed the auto-adjust button and it looks perfect now.
You who are using this LCD (model M17ANA), can you tell me what the specs are on the adapter for the power cord? I don’t have a cord and the back of the unit doesn’t say what the center pin should be (neg or pos), or the watts, volts, etc. Thanx, I need to find another cord!
Like others you could also have taken the short cut to writing this article but you desisted from it because the primary objective of writing this article about LCD was my satisfation. And after reading this article, i can yourself feel it.
Hey Vic,
Here’s the specs on mine
Ac Adapter 50w
Model – PAA050F
Input- 100-240 50/60Hrz
Output- 12.0v~4.16a
Now that I helped someone, perhaps someone can help me out…?
I have a new rig as does Shaun Eagle..not as nice but very good, I installed Vista Ultimate 64 bit
runs great but it first listed the monitor as Non-PnP only 800×640 resolution…once i switched it to PnP moved it to 1024-768..that’s good but I want it higher and there is none to select and that’s the best in the list.
SOOOOOO is this because of Vista or the monitor?
And Is there a driver for this ???
Thanks for any help folks!
This helped! Thanks for the info!
Hi,
I have a Metro 19″ LCD monitor and it went black or blank just a few days ago. Seems like there is no power. Could it be the AC Adapter 50 W Model PAA050F (Input: 100-240 V- 50/60 Hz 1.7A // Output 12.0V at 4.16A)?
It was working fine (just plug’n’play) prior to it “winking out” on me. I have not changed any of the settings. Since then, I’ve replaced it with an older model which works fine (and showed no messages or errors to report).
Could it also be the video card (someone had a problem with theirs). It is only 3 years old (this Jan/09) so I feel as if something should be done to remedy it.
Thanks for any help…and what a great Blog folks!
J
BINGO! Thanks
I recently purchased a 19″ Starlogic monitor. It is a tricky thing to make it track. Resolution on the monitor and computer has to be the same. The refresh rate on the monitor and the computer also has to be the same.
If the refresh rate is not compatible you will receive a blinking monitor or nothing at all.
I am using my Starlight on Windows XP Media Center.
I experienced many of the same difficulties as you.
I have the Manufacturers manual. It does not have much information.
I am happy with my unit after almost throwing it in the garbage.
If any one wish to have a Instillation and user guide, I will be willing to share same.
email me jteenterprises@netzero.net
thanks works great now
Hi! I was surfing and found your blog post… nice! I love your blog. 🙂 Cheers! Sandra. R.
Sign: umsun Hello!!! rcuwwymhyw and 1378ssgfhphzye and 4891I will try to recommend this post to my friends and family, cuz its really helpful.
Hi all,
I’ve been reading this entire post and there seems to be a lot of help out there for every other problem but the one I’m having so, here is to hoping that someone can help!
I have a Starlogic (ugh) 19″ M19BNK. I’ve had to replace the power supply once because it just wasn’t turning on any more after about a year. It worked OK after that for awhile, but now we are running into another issue. The power will turn on for a few seconds (power button turns green) it displays “No Signal” in a blue box, and then the power button turns orange again and screen goes black. I’ve tried hooking this monitor up to our desktop machine which has Windows XP and to my laptop which has Windows 07. Both machines get the same result. The other weird thing is that when I connect my laptop to the monitor, my laptop recognizes that I’m connecting another monitor, it goes into another display mode which it should do, and as soon as I pull that connection my laptop goes back to normal view.
If this is an easy fix I’m going to be really annoyed because we’ve been using a dinasour monitor in the meantime, but I’ll take any help I can get!
Thanks everyone, Merry Christmas!
I have the same problem. I have two monitors and I changed them and it seems to be the monitor not the cable or the power supply. I’m at a loss too.

Just bought a new HP 6300 series tower computer. My Starlogic M17ANA monitor will not display correctly. Do you have any sugestions. The control panel is so much different than what is shown here.
The new 6300 HP seriese tower has Windows 7 for the operating system.
Just bought a new Dell w/ Windows 7.
I installed a 2nd video card to run a second monitor but now the only monitor that works is the one hooked to the new video card. The computer doesn’t seem to be able to find the original. The help menu says to go to screen resolution and click on “detect”. But nothing happens. Any suggestions?
Also, any ideas on how to get Windows 7 w/ Office 2010 to open an older Excel file?

I am trying to get the part’s that are needed to get a used StarLogic Model #: M19BNK working, but I have run into a problem!
It seem’s that on the back of the screen you will find all of the information, that I listed above, but that info is for a 19″ screen. I measured the screen and it was 17″!
The Model# for the 17″ screen is M17ANA and the screen that I am working on is a 17″ screen with the Model# M19BNK. Can you please tell me why this is in contradiction to what I actually have!
some really nice and utilitarian information on this site, as well I conceive the pattern has got wonderful features.

This monitor, the StarLogic MT5BBK, is a f**kin’ pain in the a**!!!
Just FYI: I checked pages on the web and found this info: my StarLogic monitor (and SYNAPS, VESCAPE and TOUCHMARK monitors) is sold by FourStar Group (“FSG”) . I couldn’t find any monitor drivers there. There was a note that the product line was discontinued in 2008. I guess FSG were packagers of another manufacturer, not actual manufacturers themselves. The sticker on the back is too sparse. Wish I had a manual for my mj7aba, too!
